our appointments in a nutshell..sort of

I had delusional schemes of writing out a super detailed post about our appointments, but that's not possible right now... my mind has been pretty um...I can't think of a word.
let's just say I'm not all there. or here. :)

Dr. J is amazing and we so appreciate his knowledge, wisdom, compassion, and humility that was shown during our appointments. We are truly blessed to be in the care of such a doctor.

Spencer: Dr. J is very pleased with the progress he has made. He finished up his last round of Babesia treatment and will now go on to a new abx protocol that targets Bartonella and Lyme.

Dr. J is hopeful that by summer, he will be able to take longer breaks from antibiotics and just be on maintenance therapy. I am so happy and thankful to see my husband's health continuing to improve. Praise God!

Me: haha, where to begin? Dr. J was impressed with me. You don't want to impress your doctor. That means you're really interesting. and sick.

After a review of symptom patterns and a neurological exam, Dr. J sighed. I have made a little progress in that I am better tolerating the oral abx (yay!), but nowhere near enough for him to see any merit in continuing them.

He had hoped to have me better stabilized prior to starting IV abx, but at this point, it's time to intervene.

So...later this month (!!!) we'll most likely be heading back to DC for me to get a PICC line placed and initiate IV abx. We're still getting logistics worked out, so we don't have firm dates yet.

There are so many more details I want to share with you, but that will have to wait.

Thank you for your continued prayers, they are SO appreciated.

2010 is going to be an adventure. I'm nervous. overwhelmed. But also hopeful. comforted.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. - Jeremiah 29:11

The LORD will guide you always;  he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.  - Isaiah 58:11

The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. - Deuteronomy 31:8

Hi! I found your blog from Lyme Warrior. I was wondering how you managed to tolerate your orals better. I am having a terrible time with them.
Thanks! Jennifer Toombs

We look forward with you to seeing God's good work in you both as 2010 unfolds. We long for recovery for you; for the ability for you to go out and do the myriad things we relatively healthy people take for granted. I think nothing of going shopping, working on a physical project, running up stairs. I want all that and so much more to flood your life in the future. Meanwhile, I rejoice in your steadfast faith in God and His providence. I love you! Dad

Hi Jennifer, I'm so sorry you're having such a rough time with the orals..

Detox has been key for me.

epsom salt and baking soda baths are good, hot or lukewarm, whatever temp you can tolerate.

Colonics & coffee enemas, as scary as they may sound (I was really freaked out by the idea for a long time), have made a HUGE difference in helping me better handle die-off reactions and feel less toxic. This has been the most effective and helpful modality for me.

Lymph massage has also helped.

If you're struggling with a lot of nausea/vomiting, don't hesitate to ask for a prescription for an anti-nausea med like zofran. That has been a help, and I wonder why I didn't ask for it way sooner!!

I hope you're able to start tolerating the meds soon! And never hesitate to call the triage nurse and let her know what a rough time you're having. A change in meds or your overall schedule could really help. Hang in there :)

Wow! So happy hubby is making great progress. And you are on to the next part of your adventure. It is a bit nerve wracking, yes, this new PICC line adventure thing. I have been a member of the PICC line club. Mine went OK. I had one kind of line or another for just shy of 4 years. So, if you need any help or suggestions, please don't hesitate to ask. I loved cutting the tops off my husbands old socks and using those for PICC line covers. they worked great. :-)

Sending prayers your way. I'm sure the Lord will be there with you all the way. Hugs, Kara
