This makes me so angry. I'm glad someone is working to put an end to such ignorance. I definitely sent in an email, as my symptoms abruptly began a few weeks after hiking and camping in the Sierra Nevadas.
I personally have never encountered a doctor who actually said "there is no Lyme in CA." But, while desperately seeing doctor after doctor for my mysterious illness, I was repeatedly told that Lyme wasn't a disease we needed to worry about in California, especially since I had not been on the East Coast. *shakes head*

If there is "No Lyme" out there, then why do I have so many friends from California with Lyme Disease.
This makes me angry too. I should post a story on my blog about what happened a few years ago, but I'll just write it here for you.
This guy actually was from LYME Connecticut. I don't know if he moved from there to NC or whether he was told to come to Duke Hospital to see the Infectious Disease doctors. Well in any case, he brought down all his CDC positive lab work, pcr, western blot .. you name it. Without blinking an eye, the IDSA doctor said "There is no Lyme in NC." The guy said "BUT I'M FROM LYME CONNECTICUT." The IDSA doctor said "But there is no Lyme in NC."
What did it just jump out of his body when he came to NC? My big joke is that ticks with it get to the border and say "Uh I can't go into that state ... there is no Lyme here."
That is such a travesty. Hard to believe. I was hiking in the Delaware Water Gap one day with my friends, and the next day we drove out to the shore to have a day at the beach. While applying sunblock in the car I felt a weird bumpy thing on my back, pulled it off and realized that it was a tick. I did get tested the next day but it surprised me to hear what you said about the first test often being inaccurate. I've never developed any symptoms of Lyme so I guess I was lucky, but think how many of us encounter a tick at some point...
I'm glad to see somebody is going to Sacramento with evidence and a plan to work for better information. Good for them!
